Cattle grazing is restricted on Boston Common.

A new law restricts use of the Common to one cow per owner. The ordinance also requires annual registration of each cow and payment of five dollars per animal. When Mayor Quincy discovers a man is violating the ordinance by keeping 13 cows on Boston Common, he orders that the cows must henceforth carry the owner’s name and be put in the pound.
